Steven Randel Hendrix hit his last home run on October 26, 2025, and crossed home plate into the arms of Jesus where the celebration began. Steve’s faith was great, and he shared that with all who came to see him.
Steve was born in Altus, Oklahoma to George L. and Millie M. ( Richardson) Hendrix on December 2, 1959. The number 26 was a significant number in his life, and he passed in his home on Oct 26 at 1:26pm. God’s timing is always perfect. The family lived in Maine and Ohio before returning to Altus when his father retired from the Air Force. Steve graduated high school in Altus and went on to earn his associate degree from Western Oklahoma State College. He continued his education and baseball career at Southwestern Oklahoma State University earning his Masters Degree in Education.
Steve married Raylene Barnes on June 26, 1981, and they made their home in Weatherford, OK until his graduation in 1984. Steve accepted his first teaching/coaching position at Pond Creek-Hunter Schools where he remained for his entire career. He accepted the position of Elementary Principal in 1987 and continued until his retirement in 2013. Steve opened and operated Mr. H Canvas and continued to coach the high school baseball team until 2020 when he had to resign due to illness.
Steve and Raylene welcomed their first child in December 1984 a son, Brenton Paul, and a daughter in July 1988, Jenna Leigh. We were so blessed to raise our family in the Pond Creek and Hunter communities.
Steve was a humble man and never wanted attention on himself. He always praised those around him for any success that came his way. He was a wonderful son, husband, father, Papa, brother, uncle and friend. He had an amazing coaching community during his career, and he was grateful for the many friends that he made. He had an impact on countless students and players over his 36 years in education. He was especially grateful for the coaches, teammates, and former students who stayed in touch over the years. He would always say “if I made a difference in just one life, then it was all worth it”. He was loved and respected by all who knew him and will be greatly missed!
Steve is survived by his wife, Raylene, his son, Brent Hendrix (Jennifer), daughter, Jenna Simpson (Ford) 7 grandchildren, Ford, Gauge, Hunter, Isaac, Jaylen, Skylar and Rylin, his mother, Millie Hendrix, brother Gary Hendrix (Audrey), sisters, Donna Frieszell,(Dave), Sharon Foreman (Rick) and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved so much. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Henry and Pearl Hendrix, Gene and Lucille Richardson, and his father George L. Hendrix
