Robert Paul DeVries Jr.

Robert Paul DeVries Jr. (45), of Lamont, Ok was born September 28, 1977 to Robert “Bob” and Barbara DeVries in Smith Center, KS. He passed from this life to live eternally with the Lord on April 29, 2023. 

Robert, who most knew only by the name Bobby, grew up in Hunter. He attended both Hunter and then Pond Creek- Hunter after they merged. 

Bobby always showed a hard work ethic. He started that as a young man working with his show hogs. He worked for Tim’s wrecker service in Enid. Sometime after that he landed himself on the Muegge’s farm as a hand and helper of all things. From there, Bobby decided to follow a path that led him into a career of plumbing. Bobby had obtained his journeyman’s and contractor's plumbing license as well as his state welding license. Bobby was a long time member of the Local 344 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union. He worked for Luckinbill Plumbing for many years. 

Bobby held many titles in his life, but his favorite role was being a father and grandfather. He loved nothing more than spending time with his children Megan, Shelby, Lindsey, and Caleb. One of Bobby’s most proud moments was being able to walk his daughter Lindsey down the aisle. He was always there for them, whether it was fixing anything they needed fixed, giving advice, or for family get-togethers. He also enjoyed his time with his grandchildren, Jesslynn, Cutter, Briggs, Laynie, and Wells. 

Bobby farmed for many years, although farming was not his passion. Bobby was a simple man that didn’t require much. He found entertainment in the simplest of things. Bobby enjoyed going to the lake, going to the drag strip to watch his son in law race, building his 1967 Camaro (that was intended to be Caleb’s), and enjoyed all things OU (Well, except Lincoln Riley). Bobby's favorite time of the year was football season, which he got to share with his sister. He was really looking forward to next season. 

Bobby is survived by his children Megan Hodges and Jon Lorg, Shelby and Jay Smith, and Lindsey and Landon Tingley; Parents Bob and Barbara DeVries; Siblings Nina Winton, Nathaniel and Teresa Winton, Chris and Amber Devries, Nicole and Alan Evans, Stephanie and Jeff Haines, Adriann Matlock, and Anna and Jarrad LeDuc; as well as many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. 

Bobby was greeted at those pearly gates by his son Caleb DeVries; brother, Marvin Palmanteer; grandparents Margaret and Raymond Matlock and Byron Holden. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice Circle of Love out of Enid (an organization that greatly helped the family and Bobby during the end days) or the Lamont Christian Church (Bobby felt strongly about Pastor Jeff McReynolds and everything he helped him through past and present).
