Maudie Marie Roberts

Maudie Marie Roberts was born at her Aunt Alice’s farm in Udall, Kansas, on April 28, 1928, to Dorothy Shaffer Nave and Floyd Collier Nave. She passed away in Enid, Oklahoma on July 24, 2026.

Maudie graduated from Mulvane High School in 1945 and then attended Railroad School in Omaha, Nebraska. She worked on the Rock Island Railroad as a telephone operator. She would take the train orders, write them down, then tie them in a roll and put the messages on a Y-shaped pole. Then she had to stand beside the tracks and hold the pole up for the engineer to run his arm through the loop and get the messages. In June 1946, she met her husband, John, while she was working at the Pond Creek depot. They were married August 7, 1946.

John and Maudie had two sons, Jerry and Jimmy, and were involved in cub scouts and baseball with the boys. They also enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. Maudie would help clean and cook anything John or Jim would bring home…even squirrels. She loved to quilt, crochet, paint, travel and cook. She enjoyed putting entries in the Grant County Fair. She liked playing games, especially bingo. Maudie also took an interest in genealogy and established strong family connections as she helped supply some input into family records.

Maudie was active in the First Baptist Church of Pond Creek, the Sunshine Center and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband of 47 years, John, and her sister Helen.

She is survived by her sons Jerry (Sue) Roberts, of Enid, Jim (Christine) Roberts, of Pond Creek, and honorary daughter, Ruth (Charles) Danley, of Bartlesville. Grandchildren Erin (Shawn) Svob and sons Cole and Rowan; Taddum (Kevin) Riddle and sons Gavin and Keon; Lori (Randy) Hosier and sons Mitchell Eldridge, Burke Hosier, Blake Hosier, and Tyler Hosier; Kim Parris and sons Ryan and Jordan; seven great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11:00 am, Saturday, August 1, 2026, at The First Christian Church in Pond Creek, with burial following in Pond Creek Cemetery under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home, Pond Creek.

Memorials may be made to the Pond Creek Cemetery Association or the Pond Creek Fire and Ambulance Association with Wilson Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
