Johnny Ray Pendergraft was born in Enid, Oklahoma on September 3rd, 1948, to Clyde Sr. and Martha (Slemmer) Pendergraft and passed away on October 5th, 2025, in Blackwell, Oklahoma.
John was raised in Pond Creek and attended Pond Creek High School where he was active in baseball, football and basketball. He was a proud member of the Bearcat’s graduating class of 1966. Upon graduation, John attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University for a year. In October of 1967, John enlisted in the United States Air Force. John was stationed in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where he was promoted to Sergeant. John was honorably discharged in October of 1971 and returned to live in Pond Creek. John immediately began his Law Enforcement career as a Medford Police Department reserve officer, until he was asked by the city of Pond Creek to become their Chief of Police. Upon completing his Basic Police Training course, John then ran for City Marshall, a position he was elected to every term until his retirement in 2003. John devoted over 30 years of his life to public service.
John married the love of his life, Darla Stowers on March 3, 1981, and immediately became daddy to their son, Josh McReynolds. John and Darla were married for 44 years, where they prayed, encouraged, supported, and enjoyed time together every day.
Through his life, John was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pond Creek and a 32nd degree Master Mason in the Masonic Lodge of Pond Creek. He was active in the classic car scene for many years. John was a proud supporter of his son’s, and later his grandkids’, many activities and sports where he was found on the sidelines of almost all their events and activities.
John was invited Home by his parents, Clyde Sr. and Martha Pendergraft, sister Mary Hawkins, brother Clyde Jr. and son Joshua McReynolds. He is survived by his wife Darla, of the home, daughter-in-law Bonnie, and grandchildren Reagan, Kennedy and Levi McReynolds of Pond Creek and Desiree Olson and Danielle Clayton of Enid.
Memorial service will be held Friday, October 10, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Pond Creek with Pastor Les Washnock officiating. Services are under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home of Pond Creek.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pond Creek Alumni Association in honor of the Pond Creek High School Class of 1966.
