 Joan Bushnell passed away on January 20, 2025, in Independence, Kansas. She was born to Thomas Fisher Shaffer and Goldie Fern Disney Shaffer on October 13, 1932, in Pond Creek, Okla. She married Charles Byron Bushnell on January 16, 1949, in Pond Creek. They took up residence in Jefferson, Oklahoma for 70 years. They raised five children: Charles Bruce, Carter Lynn, Mark Lee, Denise Elizabeth and Kevin Newell.

 They were able to purchase the 80-acre farm in 1951 that Charles’ Grandfather had staked a claim on during the land run of 1889 into Oklahoma.

 After raising her children, Joan went to work for Saint Mary’s Hospital as a medical transcriber in Enid, Oklahoma where she worked until she retired.

 She is preceded in death by her husband Charles of 71 years, two of her sons Carter Lynn and Mark Lee, her parents, and several brothers and sisters. She is survived by two sisters, Joyce Overton and Dorothy Avery, three children Bruce (Barbara) of Independence, Kansas, Denise of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Kevin of Pond Creek, Oklahoma. Also many grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter, along with countless nieces & nephews.

 She had an extreme love for her family, collecting dolls and going to flea markets. She will be greatly missed.

 A memorial service will be at a later date. Memorials may go to the Pond Creek Volunteer Fire Department. Arrangements by Wilson Funeral Home, Pond Creek, OK.
