Joan Jantzen Dewey

March 21, 1942 — August 17, 2025

Medford, OK

Joan Jantzen Dewey, of Medford, Oklahoma, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at home with her family.

Being the second of seven children, Joan was born March 21,1942 to John and Aileen Ferris of Pond Creek. She attended Jefferson and Pond Creek schools, graduating in 1960 and went on to further her education at Enid Business College.

On May 4,1963 Joan married Bill E. Joe Jantzen. They had a son, Travis. Joan and Joe lived in Dover and then Hennessey where she worked at the nursing home. Joan lost Joe in a tragic oilfield explosion in April of 1969. Soon afterwards, she and Travis moved back to Pond Creek.

December 27, 1971, Joan married Larry Don Dewey, moved to their present home south of Medford and had a daughter, Franci. Throughout her time here on earth, Joan served as a dorm mom at Oklahoma Bible Academy in Meno, a nurse aid at Bass Hospital in Enid, vice-president and secretary of Meisner Inc., a lobbyist in D.C., an artist, a Sunday school teacher, the director of the Sweet Inspirations traveling singing group, host to several exchange students, a faithful, loving wife and wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her passion was loving God and loving people, and she did both so well. She was quick to share her faith in Christ with anyone who would listen, and her home was always filled with family, friends, love, laughter and food for all.

Joan is survived by her husband, Larry; son, Travis Jantzen and wife Tammy and their children Katy, Kaley, Joseph and wife Madison; daughter, Franci MacDonald and husband Paul and their children, Renae Dodson and husband Clint, Robert, Maddie and husband Matthew, and Eva; sisters, Nelda Jantz, Jane Bartley, Christie Ferris and brother, John Ferris; numerous nieces and nephews, and nine great grandchildren.

Joan’s Celebration of Life service will be 11:00 a.m. August 23, 2025, at Jefferson United Methodist Church officiated by her son-in-law Paul MacDonald. Arrangements made by Wilson Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to the Jefferson UMC.
