Glenda J. Whitaker

January 23, 1934 — May 15, 2023

Humbe, TX

Glenda J. Whitaker, 89, of Humble, Texas passed away on May 15, 2023, after a lengthy illness.
Glenda was born on January 23, 1934, to Silven and Amanda Ledbetter in Wewoka, Oklahoma.
At a young age Glenda’s family moved to the rural Butner, OK area, a few miles north of Wewoka where she attended school. During her school years she met a young man who became the love of her life and her partner for life, Eugene Whitaker. Eugene, also called Jud by his family, and Glenda were united in marriage on June 23, 1950, in Wewoka. Jud was employed in the oil and gas production industry, a job that resulted in the young couple’s relocation to Pond Creek, OK in September 1951 with their firstborn child, Michael. Their residency established there together was to last 47 years. A daughter, Marsha was born in 1954.
Instilled with the hard work ethos common to rural Oklahoma life, Jud and Glenda strived to raise their family within fundamental Christian values. Both believed the process for building a
family was to keep an eye towards heaven while their feet remained firmly planted on simple, solid principles. Through their life’s journey they worked together suffering through
disappointments and rejoicing in victories. This journey was interrupted by Jud’s passing in 1998 but is now resumed anew within God’s heavenly realm.
The ”Victories” are many including: six grandchildren, Keri Whitaker Jackson, Justin Whitaker, Curtis Whitaker, Chris Nichols, Chad Nichols and Matt Nichols and eleven great-grandchildren.
Those preceding Glenda in death include her parents, her brother Gary Ledbetter and sisters Jean Slape and Peggy Burgin. Surviving Glenda is her dear sister and longtime confidant Kay H. Geiser of Enid.
The pure, kind heart of “Granny Glen” spoke freely and constantly with The Lord. We praise and thank Him for sharing her with us.
Graveside service was 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at the Pond Creek Cemetery, Pond Creek, OK., officiated by Pastor Erik Granberg. Memorial donations can be made to North Garland Church of Christ  food pantry, 703 North Garland Road, Enid,OK 73703. Arrangements by Wilson Funeral Home, Pond Creek, OK.
