Pond Creek, OK

. .

Gerry Lou Brown passed away on March 1, 2026, at Greenbrier Village in Enid, Oklahoma, where she had been residing for just over a month. Her three children were by her side at the time of her passing.

Gerry was born on June 20, 1940, in Harper, Kansas, the daughter of Gerald Leroy “Shorty” Best and Louise Best. She attended Gore Consolidated School and graduated from Wakita High School. Gerry married her high school sweetheart, Jerry Lee Brown, on August 10, 1958. The couple lived in Stillwater, Oklahoma, while Jerry attended Oklahoma State University, and, after Jerry’s graduation, they moved back to the family farm where they enjoyed all the ups and downs of farming and cattle ranching.

After Jerry passed away in 1984, Gerry worked for a local crop insurance agency and eventually started her own successful crop insurance business. Gerry moved to Enid in the late 1990s where she was very active in her church, Christian Church of the Covenant. With her church, she traveled on numerous mission trips, served as a deacon, an elder, and a board member, and received the Leo Christensen Award for her outstanding service. Gerry truly had a servant’s heart, whether it was helping someone new to this country learn to read or volunteering for CASA, Hospice or Loaves & Fishes. She had many adventures with her good friend, Harriett Dupus, going on several mission trips to the Lend a Hand Center in Kentucky, the Dominican Republic, several sightseeing bus trips and a trip to Hawaii.

Gerry was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerry, and her two parents.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Tara and Steven Neilson; her daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Mike Lane; and her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Jinafer Brown; grandchildren, Justin Neilson, Clint Neilson, Morgan Pingry, Tyson Neilson, Sarah Liner, Micah Garrison, Ben Brown and John Brown; her sister, Becky Best; her niece, Stephanie Baker, and 15 great-grandchildren.

The family thanks Tiffany, Sydnie, Angie, McKenna and Lindsey with Elara Hospice for their outstanding and compassionate care of our mother during the last few hours of her life.

Services will be held on Monday, March 9, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Bethel Hawley Baptist Church, Hawley, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at the Hawley Cemetery. Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Elara Hospice or Hawley Cemetery. Arrangements by Wilson Funeral Home, 227 East Aspen, P.O. Box 478, Pond Creek, Oklahoma 73766.
