David T. Kirk was born May 14, 1937, in Wichita, Kansas to Dale T Kirk and Thelma (Hanson) Kirk, and flew home January 9, 2026, from his beloved family farm in Pond Creek, Homestead Farms.
From the age of 6 to the present David lived in the home built by Frank Collins. David had many memories growing up with his sisters; Grace and Daleen. Twin brothers Terry and Jerry Parish joined the family in 1957. David credits Jerry for his flight training and the many memories with Terry and Jerry.
David T Kirk married Susan Ann Collins on July 19, 1964, and from this union they had one child Martha Susan (Kirk) Moore. Homestead Farms' name originated with Susan Collins from Dobbs Ferry New York to breed and race high-quality thoroughbred racehorses. David traveled in his El Camino thousands of miles selling horses in New York and having their first horse Modest Martha run and won her first out at Belmont in New York.
David was a maverick in everything he did. He joined the Army after high school in the artillery division. He then attended Oklahoma State University and ran race cars on the (SCCA) “Sports cars” circuit. He was a cattle farmer and would go daily in his red wagon to check on them. He owned 15 airplanes in over 30 years of flying over 21,000 hours and serving as National Secretary for the NAAA. Barbara and Bryan assisted in his success with Homestead Flying.
In his retirement, he crafted self-made airplanes in bottles. He crafted a representation of the Tuskegee flying airman at Tulsa at the airplane museum. Many friends and family received these prized presents of his airplanes in a bottle.
David T. Kirk was preceded in death by his parents Dale and Thelma Kirk, both his sisters Grace Holden and Daleen and Rob Hanan, and nephews, Brent Holden and Steve Holden, Terry Parish.
David Kirk is survived by his daughter, Martha Susan (Kirk) Moore and husband Steven Lee Moore; two granddaughters; Emily Marie Rose Moore and fiancé Connor Doherty and Kate Lacey: niece Sherrie (Beck) Johnson and family; nephews, Todd (Rhonda) Hanan and family, Scott (Julia) Hanan and family, Greg (Pam) Hanan and family and Jerry Parish.
Much appreciation for Steve Moore, Bryan Kugel, Micah & Kyla Barr, Kevin Bushnell and Cory, Lizzie, Dee Wizard, Ellie K, Tristan, Geo neighbors, friends, healthcare workers and especially Charles (Lois) Henderson for a lifelong friendship since 3rd grade.
